Professional Development

Embracing Professional Development

Professional Development is a crucial part of our chapter mission. Beyond competition, our chapter strives to provide members with hands-on professional experience that can be used now and for years to come. We primarily focus on LinkedIn, resumes, mock interviews, literacy, and financial literacy, all skills that add to a member’s professional toolbox. We assist members in building a strong foundation of workplace abilities while fostering partnerships to ensure members can achieve their current and future goals. Our primary partner, the Center for Career Development at Washington College, is an amazing resource for students who want to improve their professional development skills.

Sophie Kerr Week 〰️

A recent tradition at Washington College, Sophie Kerr Week is a professional development event that is dedicated to promoting literacy and excellence in writing while honoring the legacy of Sophie Kerr. Sophie Kerr was a prolific writer from the early 20th century who, upon her death, made a donation to Washington College that supports students to this day. As it stands now, the Sophie Kerr Prize is the largest undergraduate prize in the nation. In honor of this, the College’s Center for Career Development, the English Department, and the American Marketing Association collaborate to host speakers and professional development sessions for students.
